CAPITOL RECORDS SIGNS ELI “PAPERBOY” REED;

RISING SOUL SINGER & SONGWRITER TO HEAD INTO STUDIO WITH ACCLAIMED PRODUCER MIKE ELIZONDO

REED TO PRESENT THE BROOKLYN SOUL FESTIVAL

AT THE BELL HOUSE ON AUG. 28 & 29

FEATURING RARELY SEEN SOUL LEGENDS

BARBARA LYNN, ROSCOE ROBINSON,

HERMON HITSON, OTIS CLAY & MAXINE BROWN

Capitol Records has signed rising soul singer and songwriter Eli “Paperboy” Reed. Reed, who Rolling Stone named a “Breaking Artist,” praising his “howling grooves and dirty down home R&B,” will be heading into the studio this month with acclaimed producer Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Eminem, Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor). Capitol Records aims to release the album in Spring 2010.

On August 28 & 29, Reed along with Dig Deeper will present The Brooklyn Soul Festival at the Bell House. The festival, which was co-curated by Reed and Dig Deeper, will feature two nights of performances by legendary soul singers from around the country, including Barbara Lynn, Roscoe Robinson, Hermon Hitson, Otis Clay and Maxine Brown. These unsung singers—rarely seen individually and never before together on the same bill—will be backed by two of the most in-demand bands in soul music today: Eli “Paperboy” Reed and the True Loves and The Sweet Divines. The opening night Reed will also be featuring songs from his forthcoming Capitol Records debut in between sets.

# # #

Reed was born in Brookline, Massachusetts. His father was a music critic whose large and diverse record collection provided an early musical education for Reed. He immediately gravitated towards soul, R&B and gospel music, and taught himself to sing and play guitar, piano and harmonica. After graduating high school Reed spent time in Clarksdale, Mississippi, where he got a first-hand musical education in the local juke joints before attending college in Chicago, Illinois.

Returning to Boston after college, Reed assembled his band the True Loves and became a fixture of the local music scene, building a sizable audience that quickly spread beyond Boston city limits. In 2008, Reed made the move to New York City and currently resides in Brooklyn. He has released two independent albums including 2008’s Roll With You, which the Boston Globe wrote “plays like a horn-soaked, groove-stoked visitation from beyond.” NPR raved that “blue-eyed soul virtuoso Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed…croons with tear-jerking tenderness, and turns clichés into bittersweet truths about the illusory nature of love.”
