The Sea, the follow up to Corinne Bailey Rae’s 2006 self-titled debut, entered The Billboard 200 at No. 7, selling upwards of 53,000 copies in its first week of release. The U.K. singer-songwriter launched the new album with four national television appearances last week, performing on “TODAY,” “Tavis Smiley,” “Ellen” and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.” Click below to see Bailey Rae performing her new single, “Closer,” on “Ellen.” The track was #1 Most Added this week at Urban AC radio. It just went to Smooth Jazz and impacts AC radio later this month.

Bailey Rae will return to the States for appearances on “Late Show with David Letterman” (March 1^st), “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (March 8^th) and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” (April 4^th). Tickets go on sale beginning this weekend for Bailey Rae’s upcoming North American tour, her first in three years. Playing a mixture of intimate venues and festivals, she’ll kick off the outing on April 9^thin Vancouver, BC. She will perform at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival (April 17^th), the St. Lucia Jazz Festival (May 8^th) and on select Lilith Fair dates (to be announced). This morning GRAMMY winner Corinne Bailey Rae performed on the “TODAY” show, coinciding with the release of her new album, The Sea. She will appear later this week on “Tavis Smiley” (January 27th), “Ellen” (January 28th) and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (January 29th). Bailey Rae will be touring extensively in support of The Sea. Her first North American outing since 2007 commences in Vancouver on April 9th and will include a stop at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival. (See below for itinerary.) Prior to the tour’s launch, she’ll appear on “Late Show with David Letterman” (March 1st) and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (March 8th).

The Public Television program "Live From The Artists Den" recently captured a full concert of Bailey Rae’s. The complete episode will premiere this spring, but to celebrate the album's release, four songs from the performance will be featured on the free online video service HULU beginning today.

The Sea is the follow-up to her 2006 self-titled debut, which entered the U.K. album chart at #1 and jumped into the Top 5 of The Billboard 200 after Bailey Rae’s performance on the 2007 GRAMMY Awards telecast. "Closer" just went to Smooth Jazz radio and will impact Urban AC on February 1st and AC radio in late February. GRAMMY winner Corinne Bailey Rae will kick off a series of five national television appearances with a performance on the “TODAY” show on Tuesday, January 26th, coinciding with the release of her latest album, The Sea. She’ll also appear on “Tavis Smiley” (January 27th), “Ellen” (January 28th) and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (January 29th). Bailey Rae will return to the States for a March 1st performance on “Late Show with David Letterman.”

“I’d Do It All Again,” the lead single from The Sea, will be available at all digital retailers beginning today. "Closer" will be impacting at Smooth Jazz radio on January 25th, at Urban AC on February 1st and AC radio in late February. A third album track, "Paris Nights and New York Mornings," will go to Triple A radio on February 15th.

NPR Music’s “Exclusive First Listen” series will give The Sea its U.S. premiere. From January 18 – 26, the album will be available for free, on-demand listening exclusively at www.npr.org/music. In addition, a performance and interview with Bailey Rae will be featured on NPR's “World Café” on Thursday, January 21st.

In December, Bailey Rae showcased songs from The Sea at sold-out concerts in Los Angeles and New York. On February 2nd, 2010, EMI’s Capitol Records will release Corinne Bailey Rae’s new album, The Sea. The record was co-produced by Bailey Rae with Steve Brown, and Steve Chrisanthou, who produced many of the songs on her debut album, which has sold four million copies worldwide. Bringing together a new band of musicians, Bailey Rae recorded the album mainly in Leeds and Manchester, England. Her voice, always an expressive and soulful instrument, resonates with a poignant and newfound depth on The Sea. Loss and grief are recurring themes yet a sense of beauty and wonder ultimately radiates from the album’s dark corners.

“There is something miraculous that pushes you along, makes you keep going, makes you carry on. It’s really about the mystery of that.
