STONE TO PERFORM A DUET WITH SMOKEY ROBINSON ON THE JAY LENO SHOW ON SEPTEMBER 24TH

British soul singer and songwriter Joss Stone will release her fourth studio album, entitled Colour Me Free, on October 20th on Virgin Records. The physical CD will be available exclusively from retail chain Target in the U.S., while the digital version will be sold exclusively through iTunes. The first single from the album is “Free Me.” The album will be released on November 2nd outside of North America.

Stone wrote and recorded Colour Me Free at Mama Stone’s, the live music venue that her mother runs in Wellington, England. She co-produced the album herself, along with producer/songwriters Jonathan Shorten and Conner Reeves, who also worked on Stone’s 2004 platinum-certified album, Mind, Body & Soul.

“I woke up one morning and wanted to make an album,” Stone says. “It's very, very raw — basically a bunch of musicians, writers, and myself just jamming. The album was not dictated or forced. It was an organic process where each musician was given the freedom to create their sound. It’s an honest and accurate representation of where I am as an artist and person right now. I am really proud of the music and excited to have people hear the songs.”

An eclectic mix of pop, soul, R&B, funk, hip-hop, and gospel sounds, Colour Me Free features a host of guest artists, including Jeff Beck and Sheila E. on “Parallel Lines,” Raphael Saadiq (who produced her 2007 gold-certified album Introducing Joss Stone) on “Big Ole Game,” rapper Nas on “Governmentalist,” and saxophonist David Sanborn on “I Believe It To My Soul.”

The 22-year-old Devon, England-born Stone has sold more than eight million albums worldwide, and been nominated for four Grammy Awards and three Brit Awards. She is known for a string of memorable live performances, including a tribute to Janis Joplin with Melissa Etheridge at the Grammy’s in 2005, an appearance at the Super Bowl half-time show with Stevie Wonder, John Legend, and India Arie in 2006, and the Concert for Diana at Wembley Stadium in London in 2007. Also that year, Stone won her first Grammy, for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals, for her collaboration with Legend and Van Hunt on Sly Stone’s “Family Affair.” In 2008, Stone performed The Who’s “My Generation” on CBS’s Kennedy Center Honors television special honoring Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey. Earlier this year, Stone performed on American Idol with Smokey Robinson and made her television debut portraying Anne of Cleves in the Showtime series The Tudors.

New York, NY – October 16, 2008 — Leading voter registration group HeadCount announced today that multi-platinum soul singer Joss Stone will appear at the organization’s November 3rd “Get out the Vote Party” at the Highline Ballroom in New York City, performing her new song “Governmentalist” and other favorites. The song is also available for free download at www.HeadCount.org beginning today, and through a link emailed to HeadCount’s 100,000-person database. It will also be available on www.JossStone.com and later released on her new album, due out next year.

Stone joins an all-star lineup which already includes Robert Randolph, ?uestlove (The Roots) and Stanton Moore (Galactic) among many other at the Nov. 3^rd event.. The concert will be held on Election Eve and streamed live on the Internet on iClips.net, spreading the “Vote” message to a limitless number of viewers.

Stone was first inspired to write “Governmentalist” in response to criticism she received from a U.K. government official after she spoke out against the poor medical care of Iraq War veterans. The 21-year-old British citizen then decided she wanted make her voice heard in the U.S. election in some way, leading to her involvement with HeadCount. Although unable to vote in this country, Stone is a member of the young demographic that has become increasingly politically active as the election approaches. “Governmentalist” captures the passions of her generation and its desire to hold government accountable.

“The U.S. election really does impact the entire world,” said Stone. “While I can’t vote in this country, I want to do what I can to inspire others, especially young voters, to make their voices heard. I can’t think of a better way to release ‘Governmentalist’ than to partner with a group like HeadCount that actively encourages voting.”

Stone has sold nearly 10 million albums worldwide and won the 2007 Grammy Award for best R&B performance by a Duo or Group. She has appeared on stage with James Brown, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Patti Labelle, Mavis Staples, Donna Summer and Smokey Robinson, and performed in front of more than 200,000 people at the Live 8 Concert.

The November 3^rd “Get Out the Vote Party” marks a rare New York City appearance for Stone as well as fellow Grammy-nominee Robert Randolph. Only 500 tickets will be sold to the general public for this event, which will serve as a benefit for HeadCount’s nonpartisan voter mobilization efforts.
